Rule Of BODMAS In mathemaics




When solving numerical expressions, we need to know the order in which addition, subtraction, multiplication  and division are carried out. The  BODMAS rule tells us the order in which we must carry out the operations.



Key point

BODMAS means:


Brackets (  )1st  priority


Orders (powers) 2nd 

Division /    2nd  priority

Multiplication x 2nd 

Addition + 3rd  priority

Subtraction - 3rd





Now let carry out some Bodmas operation, you have to follow up my pattern and explanations ,lets goo..



Examples

(1)     2 x ( 6  / 3) - 1


     open the bracket


    6

--------- = 2

    3


   multiply  2 by (6/3)


  2 x 2 = 4


   Subtract 1 from 4


  4 - 1 = 3

--------------------------------------------



= 2 x ( 6  / 3) - 1


=  2 x 2 - 1


 =  4 - 1

 

=   3




 Do not forget what the rule says, bracket first , multiplication before division



( 6 + 2 - 4) / 2


  First operate the numbers in bracket


 6 -2 = 4 , then 4 + 4 = 8



8 / 2 = 4

= ( 6 - 2 +4) / 2


= ( 6 + 4-2)


= (10 -2)


=( 8)


= 8 /2


= 4






Exercises

 Place brackets in the following expressions to make them correct


1. 6 x 12 - 3 + 1 = 55

2. 6 x 12 - 3 + 1 = 68

3. 5 x 4 - 3 + 2 = 15

Solution


1. 6 x 12 - 3 + 1 = 55


   = 6 x( 12 - 3) + 1


   = (6 x 9) + 1


   = 54 + 1


   = 55




 2. 6 x 12 - 3 + 1 = 68


    = ( 6 x 12) - 3 + 1


    =  72 -4


    = 68




 3. 5 x 4 - 3 + 2 = 15


   = 5 x ( 4 - 3) + 2


   = 5 x (1 + 2)


   = 5 x 3


   = 15



That is how to bracket any given expression, first you have to bracket the numbers with subtraction sign, keep the one with x at the back of the bracket that all.

just remove 0 and keep the whole number.



3. ( 42 x 63) x 42


  we'll used expanded form method


      = 42 x ( 60 + 4)

      = (42 x 60) + (42 + 2)

      = 2520 + 126

      = 2646



      Then


  =  2646 x 42


  = 111, 132



  Solve these


1.  6 + (3 x 4 )

2. (3 + 5) x (4 + 5 + 1)




  Fill the missing numbers


1.  270 + p = 4050

2. p x 3---- 60 ---- = 55




 Place brackets in the following expression to make them correct.


1. 5 x 4 - 3 + 2 = 7

2. 6 x 12 - 3 + 1 = 60
